Honour Your Father and Mother Always

When a close family friend and her kids moved away recently, I felt inspired to write this little note to their children and create the prayer image attached.

April 2019.

Dear Robinson and Priscilla,

Remember the 4th commandment? It's about honoring your mom and dad.

Your dad stands for Our Lord, and your mom stands for Our Lady. Even though they're human and not perfect, it's important to see the goodness in all our flaws.

When you show respect to your parents, you're also showing respect to God, Jesus, and His mother. This way, you're keeping the 1st commandment.

Even though he's not perfect, your dad is doing his best to support all of you with what he has. The sacrifices he makes, along with your mom's, help keep the family together and let you enjoy the peace you have every day.

At home, we make it a habit to say "I love you" or show love to each other. I've taught my kids to be humble and kind, to express love and kindness. We try to act in a way that shows we care, using loving and meaningful words with one another. This way, we won't have any regrets if one of us is suddenly called home by God.

You'll be away from your dad for a while soon, so make sure he knows how much you love and appreciate him. If you're not sure what to say, a simple "I love you and thank you, Dad" will go a long way. It'll mean a lot to him and help him keep going with his responsibilities for the family, even from afar.

Auntie Diana and I are really going to miss you both and your wonderful mom. Make sure to be humble and kind to each other—being nice in what you say and do will help keep love and unity strong in your family. This will help you support each other through life's challenges.

Your parents are making sacrifices for you both, so show them some love by studying hard, behaving well, and getting used to your new surroundings. Learning to roll with the punches is great because it makes you tougher and more resilient.

Life's all about keeping the learning going. There's always something new to pick up, whether it's about your faith, school stuff, personal growth, random facts, tech, and more. You only really stop learning when you absolutely can't anymore.

Stay prayerful and keep the faith; Our Lady and her angels will always be there to guide and help you.
